But have you ever wondered where the name of the famous search engine comes from? We will tell you.
THE STORY BEGINS WITH
A NUMBER, A GRANDFATHER AND A CHILD!
At the beginning of the 1900s, the American mathematician Edward Kasner , looking for a way to arouse the interest of his nine-year-old grandson for his discipline, asked him to give a name to a very large number, for example a 1 followed by one hundred 0 (i.e. ten to the hundredth). The grandson answered Googol !
Years later, Page and Brin , the two founders of Google, chose to name their newborn search engine just like that curious word born from the spontaneity of a child. It was the perfect name to represent the immense amount of information available on the web.
When they registered the domain, however, they realized they didn't know exactly how it was written and decided on “Google”.
Only the next day, a colleague of theirs at Stanford warned them of the gross error, but the domain was now registered.
